Michael Vick is making a return to football and Atlanta, just not in the NFL.
The former Atlanta Falcons quarterback was announced Wednesday as the offensive coordinator for an Atlanta franchise in the new Alliance of American Football.
The league, which will kick off in February with eight teams, previously announced an Orlando team, which will be coached by Steve Spurrier.
The Atlanta team will play its home games at Georgia State Stadium, which was formerly known as Turner Field when it served as the baseball stadium for the Atlanta Braves.
Vick was chosen as a coach for the new team by former NFL coach Brad Childress, who will serve as the head coach for the Atlanta team.
The new league is a joint effort between producer and director Charlie Ebersol, former NFL general manager Bill Polian and several former NFL players.
