James Quick relishes opportunity with the Legends

SAN ANTONIO – Atlanta Legends receiver James Quick remembers the days of backyard football in the neighborhood.
He was among a collection of kids that played an impromptu pickup game whenever possible. One of his favorite games was “Pitch, Back, Tackle.”
The rules of the game were simple. A player had to run with the football and throw it back before he got tackled.
“We used to play after every little league football game,” Quick said. “It was something that we did as kids.”
In the backyard, Quick lived up to his surname. He always was one of the fastest kids in his neighborhood outside Louisville, Kentucky.
Now, Quick is trying to make his mark with The Legends in The Alliance. He has flashed potential on the field and used his quickness to be a vertical threat.
“Stretching the field is what I like to do and that is what I bring to the table,” Quick said. “I am a guy that can get around defenders.”
Quick joins The Legends after a standout career with the Louisville Cardinals. He compiled 126 catches, 2,032 receiving yards, and 14 touchdowns with the Cardinals. Quick also spent time with the Washington Redskins in the NFL.
After a couple seasons away from football, Quick is thankful for another shot at chasing his childhood dream.
“I was working and selling cars,” Quick said. “I got the phone call from my agent telling me I had an opportunity to come play for the Atlanta Legends. With me, I have been out of football for almost two years. Coming back and having a chance to play football again was very exciting for me.”
Quick has some familiar faces on the Legends. He played with cornerback Shaq Wiggins in college and knows teammates Khalil Hunter and Charles Standberry Jr.
He says that having his college teammates around has helped in training camp. It has also given him an opportunity to connect with others as well.
“Having those guys is good because you have someone you know as they are a familiar face,” Quick said. “It’s always good to have them around and have someone to meet new people.”
As camp progresses, Quick aims to steadily improve. He wants to continue playing faster, showcase his skills and contribute to the team.
“I am excited to get out there and compete,” Quick said. “I am a team guy and want to help my team win.”
