Hotshots camp, 3 Quick Hits: A lesson in leadership

1. Defensive lineman Will Sutton III delivered a passionate speech to his teammates at the end of practice, apologizing for his part in a scuffle and about taking care of and not hurting each other when the pads are on. It drew praise from teammates. “Leadership,” coach Rick Neuheisel said. “I talked to Will before the practices. He’s perfectly situated being an Arizona State kid, we’re going to be playing in his old stadium, to take a leadership role. He’s certainly that kind of player.”

2. The players put on pads and hit each other for the first time at training camp, and tempers flared to some degree. But as has been the case at the end of many contact drills and at the final horn to end practice, there were handshakes and slapping hands between offensive and defensive players.

3. Interceptions. Three players picked off passes in practice — defensive back Joe Brown III, linebacker Terrance Bullitt and defensive back Robert Nelson Jr., who now has two in camp.
